Elene Usdin is affiliate of group Hartland Villa. She is an illustrator who has been published in numerous magazines internationaly and has created some beautiful books for kids. But now it’s her photographic creative works, her self-portraits, that are drawing attention.
Take her picture Matelas for instance. Her body, self-entangled in mattresses, is here for us to discover. Her self is in some way always illusive, not all parts are be exposed in a single instant but rather over time in flowing movement. She’s not giving a lot away: her face is often incompletely covered, from time to time completely behind a generic plastic mask, eyes sealed shut. Exposed walls… and no furniture except mattresses used similar to armour nearby the body, protecting it from our gaze.
