There is a latest breed of Phosphor watches from Seiko that uses e-ink electronic paper as its display, leting unprecedented elasticity on how a dial should look like.
The E Ink technology depicts digital time with the look of electronic paper and can be read exactly and immediately from any angle – very much improving on dull liquid crystal displays (LCDs) that typify previous digital watches.

The customizable dial allows the owner to choose among styles, from the exact detail of full numerals and indices to the simplicity of no markings all.
To swap between the styles, you only hit a button and wait for a moment as the watch refreshes. It’s so easy, we then wondered why the watch didn’t come with more preprogrammed face designs.
Also, while the watch automatically refreshes the E-Ink to update the digital display, the second hand never lined up with the display.

“The phosphor watch with the ink on paper look E Ink display has a significantly better viewing angle than watches with typical Liquid Crystal displays, and a much better contrast in high brightness situations than any emissive display,” said Chris King, SID Fellow, and co-founder of Planar Systems.
These new e-ink Phosphor watches will retail for $250 upwards.
