At first glance these bodies of work may seem disparate; however, they are inspired and shaped by a shared impulse to transform common forms into metaphorical constructions and paradoxical observations. Loren Schwerd explore the several associations that are present in a material, site, picture, or gesture, seeking to identify and enhance points of relation and tension between these suggestions. She favor found materials that contribute their function, cultural value, and a trace of their mysterious personal history to her design. All of her projects demonstrate a loyalty to craft. Loren Schwerd employ vital methods of connection such as tying, weaving, and stitching, imbuing her work with a feminine feeling, and whose meticulous labor evokes a sense of time, memory, and obsession. Permeating all of her creative endeavors is a little dark humor and a fascination with awkward beauty.
